This is a Lovely Room of Death. Take care now. Bye bye then
I'd never done a 30 day challenge like sculptober or anything so I thought I'd give it a shot! I decided I'd make a skull per day, record my process and call it #skullptober! I started off really strong, but wow whee! Roughly two hours of dedicated personal work per day is easier said than done, especially when you have full-time job and a decently healthy life away from the computer!
After 14 days of process videos, I decided to cut that from the program and then a week later I called it. No shame in not rounding out the final ten though. I learned a lot more about animal anatomy and about being more focused on a short-term goal. In the end I just simply felt tired. :/
🎃 Day 01 🎃
Workflow
Behold! The first of many sculpts of skulls to come! This is a vampire if you couldn't tell. I started this evil guy from a sphere and used ZBrush to push and pull him into his creepy self. Watch the workflow video I made. It's sped up 10x so you can see where I made weird design choices on the fly. He was really fun to make and took about an hour for the sculpt. More time was spent ZRemeshing so I could make UVs and do some quick tricks with Substance Painter to add more variation.
🎃 Day 02 🎃
Workflow
This one's a spooky demon. He looks a little too similar to the first guy and I don't want for these to all look a like so the next one is going to be some kind of animal.
🎃 Day 03 🎃
Workflow
This is a very ferocious snapping turtle. Do not put your fingies near that face!
🎃 Day 04 🎃
This is a gila monster. Gila Monsters are little freaks with bony skulls that make them look really tough, but they're all talk.
🎃 Day 05 🎃
This is a smiley crocodile. Native to Floridian golf courses and the fiery pits of hell.
🎃 Day 06 🎃
Workflow
This is a hot take on a gorilla. Sexy? No doubt. Anatomically accurate? Who is to say?
🎃 Day 07 🎃
Workflow
This is one of my favorites cause I made it the night after Chris Taylor hit a walk-off home run to win the wild card game against the Cardinals. Solana and I were there!
🎃 Day 08 🎃
Workflow
Mandrills are by far the meanest looking monkey. They have blue butts and they will bite you.
🎃 Day 09 🎃
Workflow
That mandrill energy from before was really harshing my vibe. I had to make something cute to get that blue-butted maniac out of my mind.
🎃 Day 10 🎃
Workflow
This is a kitty cat.
🎃 Day 11 🎃
This is a v precious apple head chihuahua. Honestly we don't deserve them.
🎃 Day 12 🎃
Workflow
This is a deer head chihuahua. They are a little less fragile than apple bois, but also deserve lots-o-love and food scraps.
🎃 Day 13 🎃
Workflow
I am straying a bit away from cute while still riding the "why-did-evolution-let-us-do-this-to-you" line. It's a bull dog.
🎃 Day 14 🎃
This vampire bat was the last workflow video I made. They took half of the time each day :/ Another time saver (I thought) was that I would start a sculpt from a preexisting model. That kinda saved time. The biggest time suck was that I committed to ZReshing and using the UVMaster to create UVs for displacement and albedo variation. I think the look at the end is worth it cause I would not want to deal with super heavy meshes, or decimated meshes and Substance Painter added additional variation for free after I made a custom smart material.
🎃 Day 15 🎃
This cheeky croc is actually called a cayman.
🎃 Day 16 🎃
This lil guy is a deer mouse.
🎃 Day 17 🎃
And this fella is a deer deer. Did I think I could get this done in like ten minutes because the shape seems similar enough to the deer mouse? Yes. Did this actually end up taking an hour to redo the ZRemesh beacuse I was using sculptris mode left and right? Yes sir rhee blob.
🎃 Day 18 🎃
Winnie the Pooh Bear
🎃 Day 19 🎃
Big Bad Bacon. EW!
🎃 Day 20 🎃
Hiphopopotamus.
🎃 Day 21 🎃
Rhymenoceros.
